First Entry
Hello, My name is Betty and I’m starting my first blog entry!
I am starting the blog as a way of gaining experience with online media, as I would like to expand my horizons to attempt to begin a career in publishing, possibly editing. I believe that it will take lots of hard work and research to see what specifically I would like to specialize in, but I’m prepared to dedicate my time to find out!
The one thing that I can be sure of is my love of books. I have been reading ever since I was little, my earliest memories being my Granny taking me to her local library to compete in the summer reading challenges they offered. The prize was a scented sticker that I believe I could still spot from a mile off (no not in a good way) and that was all I needed to complete a whole book in one afternoon to ensure I won.
Was the book incredibly interesting and advanced for such a young reader or was it the latest Captain Underpants book? I admit that the caped underwear hero was extremely fast-paced and I think we can all agree that you too would also read the shortest book to win first place. Anyone who disagrees is lying to themselves.
It does mean that I don’t take reading too seriously, and to this day I will always go for an easy funny romance to escape reality over a complex fiction book. I think that opening a book is all about getting lost with the characters, their stories and if you discover something along the way about yourself, that’s a plus. I do enjoy reviewing books and discussing them with others to gain a deeper understanding of particular stories, but at the end of the day I do enjoy getting lost in a different reality; despite my partner reminding me that those people on the pages don’t actually exist.
I have a very demanding job that can be extremely stressful on my mind, and so reading is my way of taking care of myself. I allow my brain to turn itself off and get absorbed into the plotlines so that when it comes to my own work, it doesn’t seem so exhausting. Nothing will heal my body more than an iced caramel coffee, sitting in my reading chair by my window with my cockapoo Roger, and yes this is how I justify all of my purchases at Waterstones.
Now that you know a little bit about why I love reading, I can’t wait to go onto review some of my future reads and hopefully I can help someone add to their TBR pile. I’m also looking into other posts for the blog that may be useful, such as advice for a reading slump or creating the perfect reading atmosphere, but let me know in the suggestions box if there’s anything else you would like to see!
I look forward to sharing my reads with you, and thank you very much for taking the time to read my blog.
Love Betty x
